With  the Ecrins National Park on the doorstep there are plenty of walks / hikes rated from easy to very hard up to the snowline (where crampons may be required).

There are 25 mountain huts (refuges) in the Oisans valley.  Combine your holiday with us with a night at a mountain hut.  Stargazing is unparalleled (weather permitting of course!).  Most of the huts can be reached within a couple of hours. For longer hikes you may wish to hire a mountain guide.  In the summer the huts also have themed days such as watercolours, plants, the night sky etc.

For white water rafting or kayaking, the professional outfit Veneon Aux Vives is just 5km from the chalet and takes safety very seriously.  After training on the bank, you’ll enter the crystal clear glacial water of the Veneon river.  For those who love excitement, try hyrdospeeding.  Activities approx. 25 Euros per person, discount for groups.

The perfect blue of the lakes in summer is indescribable.  Windsurf on the lake at Allemont (20km from the chalet) or kitesurf on the extensive Lac de Monteynard, just over an hour’s drive, where the boat trip with lunch is unforgettable (open April to October).

The Veneon valley is transformed into a winter wonderland in colder climes.

X country ski trails run the length of the river into Bourg d’Oisans where there are flatter pistes.  You can also strap on snowshoes outside the chalet door and explore the forests, find animal tracks and may even be rewarded by seeing deer, wild boar, red squirrels or chamois.

The glacier of Mont de Lans in Les 2 Alpes is the largest summer skiable glacier in Europe.  Many of Europe’s national ski and snowboard teams come here to train in the summer.  The views at 3,500 metres are incredible.  Walkers can come up here too in the Jandri Express gondola.  Visit the ice caves and meet a life size ice sculpture of t-rex! Or take a snowcat tour over to La Grave and La Meije.

From the Italian meaning “iron path”, via ferratas are pre wired climbs which also have metal steps and suspended walkways, and were used during the 2nd World War by the infamous “Maquis”.  Not for the faint-hearted but the closest you’ll get to alpine climbing in a safer environment.  Helmets and harnesses can be hired locally for around 10 euros a day. There’s one right behind the chalet.

Descend from Les 2 Alpes with a parapente instructor and soar with the eagles, often found in the valley during the summer.  A wonderfully gentle sensation and an adrenalin rush of a lifetime. The instructor can take you straight over the chalet for you to get a real bird’s eye view.  In the winter you take off and land on your skis.   A favourite for 50th birthdays!
Venosc has a great outdoor pool with water slide open in July and August.  From the pool you can watch the brave participants at the top of the bungy jump tower which forms part of the Adventure Park where you’ll also find zip wires, scramble nets and tree walks.  Minimum height with arms raised is 1.55m and cost approx. 20 euros. Or you can bungy jump from a cable car...

There are guided walks around Venosc in both the winter and summer, as well as plenty of museums in the area.  Most noteworthy is the magnificent Chateau de Vizille, hotbed of activities precipitating the French Revolution 1789.  Entrance is free, closed on Tuesdays.
